Music with Mr Mark is a highlight in the year for our Stage 2 students. This is a program that has been running at Cambewarra Public School for two years now and it has recieved nothing but rave reviews from the students and teachers involved.
Mark Holder-Keeping, affectionately known as Mr Mark, is a very talented, local musician who is running this program as part of the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music.
During this 9 week program, Mr Mark exposes the students to a wide range of instruments and styles of music - including, but not limited to, guitar, marimba, glockenspiel, percussion, strings and drumming.
The amazing this is that Mark makes a lot of these instruments himself out of objects such as spare bits of wood and pipe. He also spoke to the kids about buying old instruments and using items around the house, like a knitting needle and part of an old car, to repair once loved instruments rather than them going to waste.
This program is beyond valuable and it really rewarding to see the students light up when he pulls up after lunch on a Friday for their lessons.
