Travel to school

Planning your school travel is easy. There are a range of safe transport options to get to our school. Check our location map, driving details and public transport options to help make the journey to school safe and easy.

Bus Travel

Catching the bus

All K-2 students are eligible for a bus pass whilst there is a 1.6 km straight line or 2.3 km walking distance minimum for Years 3-6 to be eligible for a bus pass.

There are several buses that service Cambewarra Public School. Shoalbus (the yellow bus) and Kennedys (the blue bus) are our two main services. Buses do connect with other services/routes at key points such as Bomaderry High School.
Do contact the bus companies directly if you have questions about their routes.

School Bus Timetables are available via their websites:

Behaviour on the bus

Bus travel is a privilege for students. Both the bus operators and the school expect that students will behave kindly, safely and respectfully to the driver and other students on the bus.

Car Travel

Parking near school

The start and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools.

The school zone is extremely busy between 3:00–3:15 pm, and children can be unpredictable in these high-traffic moments.

When driving and parking near our school, please:

  • ensure you park safely in school zones
  • follow speed signs
  • do not make U-turns or 3-point turns outside the school.

Morning Turning Circle Usage

The turning circle aims for the drop off to be quick!

The rules of the turning circle are:

  • Drive in at walking pace for safety reasons
  • There is a 2 minute time limit.
  • You must stay within 2 metres of your car.
  • Move up as far as possible to make space for everyone.
  • The turning circle is strictly One-Way (clockwise) and only open in the mornings
  • Do not overtake other cars, wait until those in front of you move off

For safety reasons:

  • Ensure your child exits from the left side of the car for safety. If this isn't possible a parent needs to open the door and help them move to the curb safely.

  • Let them out within the drop off signs.

  • Walk small children to the steps.

  • Please do not walk across the turning circle. The children watch and copy your example so walk on the path provided.

Turning circle within school hours

Between 9:10 and 2:40 you can stop in the turning circle if signing a student in late or out early. Ensure you park mindfully so that other service vehicles can move around you safely.

We may close the turning circle occasionally if there is an event where buses must take priority.

Afternoon pick up

The turning circle and carparks are closed from 2:40- 3:15pm daily. This is for student safety reasons.

If it is an emergency you are permitted to enter, if doing so please drive slowly.

Thank you for helping make the turning circle safe and workable for everyone using it.

Onsite carpark usage

The school carparks are only for the use of school staff, OOSH staff and approved visitors/contractors.

The staff carpark is closed to all vehicles except staff and authorised permit holders. Parking spaces are already limited and are required throughout the day.

Families collecting children from  PEAK  may use the staff carpark after 3:15 pm. Please note that the turning circle is a  No Stopping Zone  during pick-up time—it must remain clear for buses and safe student movement.

Driving Subsidy

You may be eligible for a private transport subsidy if the distance to the nearest transport pick-up point (where available) exceeds 1.6km (straight line distance) or is at least 2.3km walking distance.

Walking and Riding to School

Road safety

Parents and carers are responsible for their child's safety and transit education when travelling to and from school.

The department has created a safe travel to school page to assist you with educating your child on how to ride or walk to and from school.

Bikes

Bike racks are located to the west of the Library building for students riding to school.

Walking

Students walking to school without a parent are safest in small groups. Consider asking around in your neighbourhood and gather a 'walking bus' group.
