Transition to Kindergarten
Here are some things to know about enrolling your child at our school once you've completed your application to enrol.
Before your child begins, all families meet with our principal. This is a time to share information and get to know one another to establish strong partnerships and to support your child's learning journey:
- have a one-on-one tour of our school
- discuss medical conditions or allergies
- learning support needs
- family circumstances that may affect your child’s start
We want every child to feel safe, supported and included in school life.
We hold three orientation sessions early in Term 4 each year.
Our orientation sessions help children:
- meet teachers and future classmates
- explore classrooms and playgrounds
- practise simple routines
Parents and carers join the information session which is held on the first orientation day. to learn about daily schedules, uniforms, lunches and communication.
Late in Term 3 we will email all enrolled families an invitation to the orientation days as well as a digital orientation pack to assist you with getting to know school life at Cambewarra Public School.
You can help your child get ready by encouraging independence and routines. Practice:
- packing and unpacking their school bag
- dressing themselves and practising toileting and hygiene routines
- following simple routines at home
Children learn routines at school such as morning arrival, snack and lunch breaks, lining up, using bubblers and moving safely around the school. Teachers guide children as they settle in and practising at home also helps.
For more advice, see the Getting ready for primary school guide
To help get your child ready for school we have
Daisy's First Day is a book to teach them what to expect when they join kindergarten.
We also have resources such as colouring in and puzzles for your child to enjoy and extend the story.
